Lanzones

Lanzones
Lansium Domesticum

Lanzones is a tropical fruit of the Philippines but is native to Malaysia. It is now widely grown throughout Southeast Asia.

The tree grows up to 30 meters high. Flowers emerge from the trunk and other larger branches.
Fruit is like a berry and beige in color. There is at least one seed in one of the segments of the fruit. It’s also bitter so its not really good to eat. The fruit comes in bunch like grapes.
Eat the fruit by squeezing it until the skin opens and inside are transparent segments of edible, juicy sweet and sour morsels almost like lychee. The skin would produce a milky sap which will stain your fingers.

The lanzones fruit is also packed of vitamins like A, B and C, calcium and phosphorus and other phytochemicals which are cancer fighters.

I remember when I went vacation with my Mom in Laguna, Philippines, we had fun eating a lot of lanzones and rambutan (another fruit of Philippines). Incidentally, Paete, Laguna is the place to be comes lanzones season. Laguna is famous for their lanzones in the Luzon Island. In Southern Philippines, lanzones is also famous in Camiguin Islands and they always have festivals celebrating the Lanzones harvest.
