Sayote/Chayote
I have a sayote plant that volunteered to grow in my garden. Since it’s a volunteer, it’s not placed in a proper spot where I can place a trellis. So I just let it be and just put a couple of wire fence for it to trail up to the fence of the garden. Three months have past and it really went like crazy and now it’s starting to give me fruits. The garden is so small, I have to prune the leaves and the shoots all the time. Luckily, the shoots of the sayote are also edible so I gather them almost everyday which is good so I can have something to give to my friends.
I like to use sayote in chicken tinola, pancit, fresh lumpia and chop suey.
The shoots are made into salad with tomatoes and onions, and fish sauce for seasoning.
