Vietnamese Sorrel

A gardener friend of mine gave me this plant but I don’t know the name. He’s Vietnamese so I figure I have to look it up as a Vietnamese plant. But since I have tasted it, it reminded me of the sorrel plant I used to have in my garden. It tasted the same, sour but with a hint of cilantro flavor. I like sorrel cause I can use it like a spinach in our Filipino recipe called “sinigang”. Sinigang is a sour soup and sorrel will add tartness to it which is better. I like it more sour when I make Sinigang.
The Vietnamese call this Sorrel Rau Chua. It is good to eat fresh in salads.
