Pumpkin/Kalabasa

This is the pumpkin now after I helped it to be pollinated (notice I have also long beans in the same trellis). Two weeks after I hand-pollinated the female pumpkin flower, it has grown and almost ready to be picked. That’s one of the things that keep me going when it comes to gardening. Patience is the by-word and the virtue you have to abide by if you’re a real gardener. It also affirmed that when you sow something, you will harvest something. I like the idea of harvesting the fruit of your labor. It gives me a sense of accomplishment and inner happiness plus something good to eat.
Pumpkin is full of flavor and nutrients. I like it for the beta-carotene. My eyesight is not that good anymore and beta carotene would help I know.

I just started some long beans seeds (sitaw). Not all of them showed up yet but this is what it looks like when they emerge from the soil. It’s not quite ready for transplanting yet. I have to wait for what they call “true” leaves before moving them to the garden bed. I already set…

It’s about a month when I published the picture of the pumpkin seedlings and after I planted them on the ground it started flowering. I noticed only male flowers so far. You will notice a female flower if it has a small pumpkin underneath the flower. It should not be long and I’m going to…
